Garage Door Bearing Replacement Service

Failing end-bearing plates need to be replaced, or they will put your garage door at risk for complete failure. The garage door centre and end bearing plates must be installed correctly and maintained constantly. Otherwise, they will go bad again. Contact Fix Garage Doors CA for qualified garage door-bearing replacement services.

Besides, proper maintenance, including lubrication, will prolong the life of the end bearings plates. Replacing the end bearings plates when they show signs of wear is much cheaper than waiting for something terrible to happen and damaging other parts.

How to Replace End Bearing Plates

There are some very important components in the garage door system, and the end bearings plates are an important key in the garage door functioning. Manufacturers recommend to replace them after about 10,000-15,000 life cycles, that is the door has been opened and closed about 10,000-15,000 times. Over time the bearings begin to grind and it can cause the garage door opener to work harder. Please follow the instructions prepared by our garage door experts:

1. Please open the door with the garage door opener and unplug it

The opener will open the door as you replace the end-bearing plates. But we replace the bearings with the door open as well. Sometimes there is only about a turn of tension on the garage door springs.

2. Remove the lag that secures the top of the bearing plate to the header

If you have a similar type of bearing plate, remove the lag that secures the top of the bearing plate to the header. This bearing has “ADH” stamped on it. If you have this type of bearings, we recommend you replace them.

3. Remove the nuts and the bolts

Loosen the nuts at the bottom of the bearing plate. Remove the nuts and the bolts. Notice the rusty steel filings from the bearing on the angle just beyond my fingers.

4. Lower the shaft and the bearing plate

Lower the end of the shaft and the bearing plate. Raise the end of the shaft and rotate the plate 90 degrees.

5. Take out old bearing plate

Remove the old bearing plate.

6. Put new plate in place by sliding it on

Slide on the new plate. Lift the shaft and rotate the plate to get it beyond the horizontal track angle. Install the bottom bolts, but do not tighten them at this time. Check to ensure the cable is still on the drum and reinstall it if needed.

7. Fasten the top of the end bearing plate

Secure the top of the end bearing plate. Align the top of the bearing plate as needed. The plate should be plumb and secure. Lubricate both sides of the bearing.

8. Repeat for symmetry

Follow the same procedure for replacing the end bearing plate on the other side.

9. Verify cable position. Test manual & electric mode. Reengage opener

Check to make sure both cables are on the drums. Disengage the door from the opener and close the door manually to make sure the door works properly. And reengage the opener, plug in the power cord, and run the door electrically with the opener.

Same-day Garage Door Bearing Repair and Replacement

Garage door bearings wear due to insufficient lubrication and lack of constant maintenance. Generally, the bearings pop and grind, and the balls lose shape over time. As the garage door bearings continue to deteriorate, they eventually freeze up, which can be fixed by lubrication. However, sometimes garage door bearings should be replaced.

No matter the garage door type, we offer professional services for roll-up garage door repair and sectional, sliding and side-hinged garage door repairs. In most cases, it is unnecessary to change the door. Contact the professionals to replace any part, and your garage door will work as a new one. We provide same-day services in Toronto and GTA areas, and it will be enough to call us at (905) 247-6699 or submit a request online, scheduling the most convenient time for you.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Is it necessary to replace garage door bearings?

Garage door bearings wear due to insufficient lubrication. The bearings initially pop and grind, and the balls lose shape. As the bearings continue to deteriorate, they eventually freeze up. Often they can be freed with lubrication, but sometimes they have to be replaced.

How long do bearings last on a garage door?

The end bearings plates are an essential key in the function of the garage door. Manufacturers recommend replacing the end bearings when they have about 10,000-15,000 life cycles. In other words, when the door has been opened and closed about 10,000-15,000 times.

How much does garage door bearings replacement cost?

Garage door bearings replacement costs between $100 and $250. Bearings are present on doors with torsion springs. They run along the shaft to support the door's weight, but they wear down. Replacement bearings are inexpensive, but fitting them takes some time.
